Epiphany takes place 12 days after Christmas when the Magi also known as the Three Kings travel to Jerusalem to worship baby Jesus. This celebration takes place on January 6th and in many countries Three Kings Day is celebrated differently.
Three Kings Day Traditions
Since my family is Cuban, one of the traditions we share is gathering three piles of cut grass the night before on January 5th and leaving it outside the house for the camels to eat.
We also hide a baby figurine in a ring-shaped cake representing the crown of Los Reyes Magos. The person who finds the baby Jesus in the cake is crowned king for the day!
January 6th is also the day our Magi finally reaches our nativity set!
Three Kings Day Crafts
I wanted to share some Three Wise Men crafts and activities I have done with my children that make it fun for them to celebrate this special day!
“Wise Men Still Seek Him” Camel Clothespin Craft
- Outline and cut out 3 camels on a brown construction paper or cardboard piece.
- Use two clothespins for the camel’s legs.
- Color the clothespins with a brown marker or crayon.
Toilet Paper Crowns
- Collect 3 Empty Toilet Paper Rolls
- Cut out pointy bits to make a crown.
- Paint your crown whatever color your child desires.
- Add any embellishments to your little crown (gems, stickers, etc.)
Wrapping Paper Magi Craft
- Use your leftover Christmas wrapping paper and cut out three triangles for the bodies of the Kings.
- On a piece of white paper cut out three circles to make the face of the Kings.
- On a piece of yellow construction paper cut out three crowns.
- Glue all these parts together on a blue or black construction paper to represent the sky.
- Lastly, add ONE bright star to the sky representing the star the Magi followed from the east to Jerusalem.
