Hi homeschool mamas! I’m Valerie Barbosa and I’m honored to be a part of the founding team of contributors for Homeschool Mom Collective.

    Homeschool

Our home education journey just started in August this year. I felt unprepared and nervous at the beginning, but as time goes by, I feel more comfortable and grateful for the blessing of being my children’s teacher.

What I like the most about homeschooling them is the time we get to spend together and the time they get to enjoy their childhood. Our lives changed in the best way possible as we all have slowed down and there’s more time for them to do the things they love. More time to play, to practice sports and music, and more importantly, more time for me to disciple and influence them with a gospel-centered education.

    Mom

My husband and I are parenting three fascinating little people, two of them in elementary school age and a preschooler.

My motherhood journey started a little over 9 years ago and it upgraded my life and purpose in ways I never knew possible. Since the newborn days, I have seen motherhood as a high calling, not only to meet my children’s physical and emotional needs, but more importantly, to introduce them to Jesus. So everything I do to serve my children everyday and love on them, has become my ministry. Kingdom, purposeful work.

On a more personal note, motherhood has shown me that I can’t do anything apart for the Lord. It magnifies my flaws, and therefore my constant need and dependence of my Father, Savior and Counselor. But it also teaches me constantly that His grace is sufficient for me, that His power is made perfect in my weakness and that I can do ALL things through Him who gives me strength.

Friendships in motherhood are truly special. I see tremendous value in purposeful relationships that bless our motherhood journey in many different levels. Encouragement, learning, support, inspiration, motivation, creativity, are some of the blessings that come hand in hand with genuine relationships.

Like motherhood, homeschooling is beautiful, purposeful, and at the same time challenging, so I’m looking forward to connecting with other homeschool moms, learning from them, and building a community where we can count on each other for support and encouragement. A space where we can build each other up and inspire one another as we invest ourselves in the most important job we will ever have: raising, educating and discipling our precious children.
